{"id":8400,"date":"2015-02-06T12:53:18","date_gmt":"2015-02-06T19:53:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.westerndriver.com\/?p=8400"},"modified":"2015-02-06T12:53:18","modified_gmt":"2015-02-06T19:53:18","slug":"goodwood-73rd-members-meeting-to-mark-20-years-of-mclaren-f1-gtr","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.westerndriver.com\/?p=8400","title":{"rendered":"Goodwood 73rd members&#8217; meeting to mark 20 years of McLaren F1 GTR"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_8401\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.westerndriver.com\/?attachment_id=8401\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-8401\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-8401\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-8401\" src=\"http:\/\/www.westerndriver.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/GTC-McLaren-F1-GTR-in-action-at-Goodwood-Festival-of-Speed-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"Gulf GTC Racing McLaren F1 GTR, which will appear at the Goodwood 73rd Members\u2019 Meeting, March 21-22, 2015.\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.westerndriver.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/GTC-McLaren-F1-GTR-in-action-at-Goodwood-Festival-of-Speed-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.westerndriver.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/GTC-McLaren-F1-GTR-in-action-at-Goodwood-Festival-of-Speed-1024x683.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-8401\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Gulf GTC Racing McLaren F1 GTR, which will appear at the Goodwood 73rd Members\u2019 Meeting, March 21-22, 2015.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/grrc.goodwood.com\/section\/members-meeting-73\/\">The Goodwood 73rd Members\u2019 Meeting<\/a>, which will be held on March 21-22, 2015, will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the 1990s\u2019 most iconic GT racer, the McLaren F1 GTR, with a huge on-track display of the 600bhp machines.<\/p>\n<p>High-speed demonstrations at the famous <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goodwood.com\/motorsport\/motorsport.aspx\">Goodwood Motor Circuit<\/a> will take place on both days of the event, with 15 examples of the incredible F1 GTR already confirmed and more set to follow in both short and long-tail specification.<\/p>\n<p>The F1 GTR, powered by a 6.1-litre V12 BMW engine, was created using a spare road-car chassis from the Gordon Murray-designed machine after customer Ray Bellm requested a competition version from McLaren boss Ron Dennis.<\/p>\n<p>Unprecedented success followed, with a debut victory at the Le Mans 24 Hours in 1995 plus back-to-back crowns in the BPR Global Endurance Championship, further titles in Britain and Japan, and more international victories for the even faster, long-tail version.<\/p>\n<p>The Harrods-liveried car in which Derek Bell and his son Justin finished third at Le Mans in \u201995 will appear at Goodwood, as will long and short-tail versions carrying a variety of different colour schemes, including those from West, Gulf and FINA.<\/p>\n<p>Indy 500 winner Kenny Brack will drive an ex-Parabolica Motorsport \u2018long-tail\u2019 machine at Goodwood while Richard Smith\u2019s similar car\u2014in which Brack was narrowly beaten to victory at last year\u2019s Festival of Speed\u2014will also appear.<\/p>\n<p>Other significant cars include Nick Mason\u2019s unraced development machine, which the former Pink Floyd drummer will drive, and the Gulf car in which Bellm and Maurizio Sandro Sala won BPR races in 1995, and which was subsequently taken to the \u201996 British GT crown.<\/p>\n<p>The British GT-winning long-tail \u2018EMI\u2019 car, an ex-Bigazzi machine raced by Jacques Laffite at Le Mans, and Ralf Schumacher\u2019s race-winning Lark version from the 1996 Japanese GT series, have also been confirmed among a prestigious list of entries.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Goodwood 73rd Members\u2019 Meeting, which will be held on March 21-22, 2015, will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the 1990s\u2019 most iconic GT racer, the McLaren F1 GTR, with a huge on-track display of the 600bhp machines.
