This BMW\u00a0model is generally\u00a0acknowledged as one of the most significant automobiles in history.\u00a0 It had leading-edge performance and handling for its time, with its tubular frame and 2 litre, inline six cylinder engine, featuring triple carburetors and hemispherical combustion chambers.<\/p>\n<p>At first glance, the engine appears to have the typical, double overhead camshafts but actually the opposed valves are operated by a single, low-mounted camshaft through a unique combination of multiple push rods and rockers. Various versions of the 327 \/ 328 won many races and rallies, and the same engine continued to be used very successfully\u00a0in Frazer-Nash, Bristol and AC cars in the postwar years.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2103\" style=\"width: 210px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.westerndriver.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/IMG_0689-e1298583057788.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2103\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2103 \" title=\"IMG_0689-e1298583057788\" src=\"http:\/\/www.westerndriver.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/IMG_0689-e1298583057788.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-2103\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">BMW 327\/328 Engine - Exhaust Side<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The extent of the work carried out by Jellybean can be very clearly seen in the story and the photos (<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jellybeanhotrods.com\/38bmw.html\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a><\/strong>) on their web site. A very high percentage of the\u00a0new pieces needed were not available anywhere and had to\u00a0be fabricated on site. \u00a0Some components such as the engine internals and the wiring were upgraded (although cleverly hidden) so that the car could be used safely and reliably on the road, under current conditions. The engine started at first crack and sounded great!<\/p>\n<p>The owners, Stephen and Annie Norman,\u00a0intend to enter their car in Vintage rallies and other events.
